West meets East in a London derby this Sunday at 1:30pm local time, as Chelsea travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham. Chelsea are in remarkable form, as they bid to win their 6th consecutive match to keep their 100% record intact.

West Ham have had a poor start to the season, but will be in buoyant mood after their 3-1 win in their most recent encounter against Everton this past Sunday.

Home Team: West Ham

west ham unitedManual Pellegrini will have felt the weight has truly be lifted off his shoulders as his team managed a superb winning performance at Everton on Sunday, winning 3-1 to celebrate his 66th birthday.

That win took them out of the relegation zone, but with performances like that, relegation battles are not what the side should be mentioning this season, and now will have to believe they can push up the table. New summer signing Andriy Yarmolenko bagged a brace in their win, proving to his club that he was worth the fee that they paid for.

Other signings are starting to gel, and fans will hope that this type of performance will now be the standard going forward. However, one bit of negative news from the game was that new signing Lucas Perez appeared to have refused to warm-up, but he has since denied any allegations. Was West Ham’s win just a one-off? Or will they follow it up with another great result against Chelsea on Sunday?

Away Team: Chelsea

chelsea fc bet on footballBefore the Premier League weekend starts, Chelsea are in first position in the league, and have looked very convincing in all their matches as manager, Maurizio Sarri, has already implemented his attacking philosophy to shift from their previous cautious approach.

The manager had said that it will take a few months to get them to their peak, but that is scary to think that they have won all 5 games so far, and Chelsea now must be considered strong challengers for the title again. However, now they are playing in the Europa League on Thursday nights, and this can prove to be a distraction to their league form. They will have to travel from playing a match in Athens on Thursday night, to then playing away at West Ham on Sunday.

Will the Europa League have an effect on Chelsea’s form?

Head to Head

In the two encounters last season, West Ham surprisingly had the upper hand. David Moyes was in charge of West Ham and his first victory was against Chelsea at the London Stadium, in a 1-0 result. In the return fixture in April, West Ham levelled the game from being behind to get a 1-1 result.

It was the first time since the 2002/2003 season that West Ham had gained more points from Chelsea than vice-versa. Usually, Chelsea tend to dominate this fixture, winning it 6 out of the last 9 times, but it’s not totally one-sided with West Ham just winning it the three times.

In terms of matches being played at this stadium, the sides have met three times in all competitions, and West Ham have been successful twice, and Chelsea just the once.

West Ham vs Chelsea Predictions and Betting Tips

West Ham are expected underdogs in this match as they are at 5/1 to get their first home win of the season. Chelsea are at 1/2 to get the win with a draw at 7/2.

It does seem unlikely that West Ham will get a win, considering they have lost at home to Bournemouth and Wolves, but their win last week will give them confidence, and they will play a Chelsea side that would have played in the Europa League on Thursday. Therefore, betting on West Ham to repeat last season’s score line of 1-0 at 20/1 is fairly generous.

I don’t think they will win, but I do think they are capable of getting a draw, so a 1-1 score line (15/2) is what I would opt for.

Marko Arnautovic is in rich goal scoring form, so he is a person you’d put money on to score first at 7/1 for the home side, but you cannot ignore Chelsea’s main man, Eden Hazard, who is at 7/2 to score first. He managed to score a hat-trick last week and has scored a goal in every 61 minutes on the pitch this season.
