We are back! Here is the tipster article that you have been longingly waiting for. It’s been a slow couple of months, but now we can immerse ourselves in football betting again. For the La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga fans, unfortunately we have to wait another 1/2 weeks, but the Premier League is back this Friday. Therefore, this edition will be a Premier League only special.

For the regular visitors, you all know what this is about, but for first time readers, I will be providing you expert betting tips based on stats, analysis and most importantly, my football gut intuition which has carried me through….well, life. All of the bets will be in an accumulator type style for the tipsters, but there is no stopping you from betting on each match individually too.

Football can be hard to predict most of the time, but for the first game of the season, you have to try and factor in the clubs’ arrivals and departures in terms of signings, the fact that a good/bad pre-season doesn’t equate to a good/bad season, and then there is player rustiness, and so on. Therefore, this week will be more audacious than usual. Let’s do it!

‘Early Season Cautiousness’

Last season, when the Premier League started, 20 Premier League clubs had the vision of starting their season in the perfect fashion. However, only when the first 90 minutes of the season finished, many were disappointed, as 8 teams (almost half), didn’t even get a goal. No games had more than 4 goals in, with the majority having three goals or less. Therefore, my first bet will be backing against teams scoring due to the first game cautiousness than many teams will have. No one wants to lose their opening game.

Match One: Bournemouth vs Sheffield United

Newly promoted Sheffield United will be one of the favourites to be relegated this season, as they have the lowest costing squad in the division. Their spirit and determination got them there, and their club may take the ‘let’s enjoy it while it lasts’ approach. They will enjoy their trip down to sunny Bournemouth in August, but Bournemouth were able to keep a clean sheet when welcoming Cardiff on the opening day last season. They can surely do it again.

Bet One: Sheffield United not to score at 7/4

Match Two: Manchester United vs Chelsea

My next theory is not exactly conjured up in my mind because of my expertise in football knowledge. I am simply putting two and two together. Manchester United should be more defensively astute this year with Aaron Wan-Bisakka at right fullback, and Harry Maguire in the middle, whereas Chelsea will be missing their key man Eden Hazard, and may not pose a similar threat. Simple thought processes could work this week more than most, so Chelsea could draw a blank in Lampard’s debut game in charge.

Bet Two: Chelsea not to score at 7/4

Match Three: Burnley vs Southampton

Burnley and Southampton was the opening match of last year’s Premier League season, and on that occasion, it endless goalless between the two teams. They finished in similar positions, and you’d think that they both will be aiming to finish between 17th and 12th yet again. On the opening day, it could be a narrow victory for either team, but I am hoping that they can cancel each other out again.

Bet Three: Southampton not to score at 2/1

Match Four: Tottenham vs Aston Villa

Unlike the other three matches which are relatively risky, the safest bet of the lot should be on Tottenham to keep a clean sheet at home to the newly promoted Aston Villa. In the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium, only Everton, West Ham and Ajax have scored in the new ground as Spurs have kept four clean sheets. Aston Villa may struggle to get a goal this Saturday.

Bet Four: Aston Villa not to score at 5/6

Bet Summary: So, for all the four selected teams not to score, you can get a four-match accumulator priced at 40/1. Alternatively, you can bet on the selected matches individually if you prefer.

‘Debut Goal Scorers’

Our 2nd bet this week will focus on players who will be making their debut for their new club, and will hope to make an instant impact. As usual, Premier League clubs have spent almost a £1billion on transfers, so out of this talent, surely at least three newcomers will get a goal on the opening weekend, right? Here are my three picks.

Match One: Bournemouth vs Sheffield United

We re-visit this game again for our 2nd bet, and the reason why is that Eddie Howe is enthusiastic about new signing Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld, who is a young and exciting winger from Netherlands. He has scored some fantastic goals in the past, and will want to open his Premier League account on his debut. As they are playing weaker opposition, he has a great chance to do this, and is reasonably valuable in terms of odds.

Bet One: Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld to score at any time at 3/1

Match Two: Leicester vs Wolves

Leicester have splashed the cash (£30mil) on former Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez, so with that figure, and that he has previous Premier League experience, you’d expect him to get some minutes on the opening day. He’ll want to impress his new players, fans and of course, Brendan Rodgers, so why not back him to get a goal?

Bet Two: Ayoze Perez to score at any time at 14/5

Match Three: Manchester United vs Chelsea

It would make quite a story if Harry Maguire was to score on his debut, but giving his aerial presence, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility. Many bookmakers, search as SkyBet, are boosting this too, so you can get generous odds of him having a debut to remember. Boost your earnings significantly, and put him in your accumulator.

Bet Three: Harry Maguire to score at any time at 10/1

Bet Summary: Betting on all three players to score on their debut, will give you incredible odds of 167/1. That’s not a typo. Incredible odds for a relatively realistic scenario to happen.

‘Underdogs Catch Favourites Off-Guard’

Favourites in full flow are hard to stop, but surprise results at the beginning of the season can happen from time to time. In my final bet – which is a double – I’ll be giving the tipsters something to consider. I will choose two matches where the underdogs will have some sort of success in matches they will think they have no chance in. Betting on them together will give you a great reward. Let’s start with the champions.

Match One: West Ham vs Manchester City

West Ham, who have a terrible recent record against Manchester City, have an almighty task of hosting the champions in the Premier League opener. Head to head, form, and just the valuation of the squads suggest that Manchester City will walk this. I don’t foresee a West Ham win as such, but leading the match at half time could happen, and you’ll be laughing on your way to the bank.

Bet One: West Ham to lead at half time at 15/2

Match Two: Newcastle vs Arsenal

Newcastle have been in disarray this summer, as the fans look to boycott the club to protest against current owner Mike Ashley. On top of that, the unfancied Steve Bruce will take charge. Not many will be expecting a decent home result here, but if we look at Arsenal’s opening day record in the last decade, they have only won twice themselves. On top of that, their away record has been poor in the last two seasons, so backing Newcastle here won’t be the stupidest thing you’ve ever done.

Bet Two: Newcastle to win by a 1-goal margin at 6/1

Summary: For these two audacious and outlandish predictions to come to fruition, you can get odds of 59/1. Betting individually is decent too, but be bold in your bet.

Thank you for reading my top tips for the Premier League weekend.

All the best!
