It was a match between Cristiano Ronaldo’s old club and Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club, but the match did not feature the star himself. It was Gareth Bale for Real Madrid who converted his dazzling form to score an excellent goal and help Real Madrid fight back to get past Juventus in a friendly encounter.

Dani Carvajal’s error

Juventus scored the first goal and took the lead when the right-back Dani Carvajal guided the ball into his own net. Juventus playing without their star player would have immensely enjoyed this goal but soon the proceedings were leveled by excellent strike form the Welsh International Gareth Bale. He whopped a half-volley into the nets to get Real Madrid back in the game.

Marco Asensio’s magic

Marco Asensio was at the top of his game and scored two goals to put Madrid ahead and very much in a commanding position for the rest of the match. Teenager Vinicius Junior was very canny and fast and combined with Asensio to score the second goal for Real Madrid. There was a space in the left and Vinicius flee with his sharp running and then sent a canny pass to Asensio who obliged with the second goal for Real Madrid. The third goal should have been stopped but it was a lazy defense by Wojciech Szczesny of Juventus but all in all, the credit can’t be taken away from the swift work of Marco Asensio. Juventus looked outdone after that and couldn’t match the constant fire of Real Madrid and the defeat seemed writing on the wall.

Ronaldo’s absence

Juventus decided not to introduce Cristiano Ronaldo in this game as well and give him a prolonged break. Ronaldo has not featured in any match after Portugal’s early exit from the World Cup. It was the last month that he decided to leave a club where he played for 9 consecutive years and scored 450 goals for them. He helped Real Madrid win 4 Champions League titles. Ronaldo, who is now 33 years old, joined Juventus for a deal of £99m.

Real Madrid’s future

Now when Ronaldo has left Bernabeu, Real Madrid will rely heavily on the Welsh International Gareth Bale. The void of such a large player is not easy to fill in any circumstance but how today’s match went, it looks that Real Madrid have the resources to fill it up. The new coach Julen Lopetegui is also looking at Bale to help fill the void but he will also need contribution from the likes of Toni Kroos and Karim Menzama.

Younger lot

While the seniors will be looking to take the club forward, many juniors will also need to step up and grab this opportunity. Julen had this fact in mind and withdrew Bale, Kroos and Benzema in the second half of the match to let the juniors show off their talent. The tactic worked as many of them stepped up to the cause, none more than Brazilian
forward Vinicius Junior and Spanish Marco Asensio. Now how well the new combination works for the European Champions, will be seen when the real battle will begin.
