It’s a key Manchester Derby on Wednesday, as United host City at Old Trafford, kicking off at 8:00pm local time. The two teams from Manchester have played many high-profile matches over the past few years, but this fixture is one of the biggest with so much to play for as Manchester City are close to retaining their title, whilst Manchester United will want a reaction after their worst defeat of the season.

Home Team: Manchester United

Manchester United were humbled on Sunday afternoon, as they played an atrocious 90 minutes at Goodison Park, as Everton were far superior in every aspect.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the performance was not acceptable, and issued an apology to the fans following the 4-0 defeat. Luckily for Manchester United, both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur lost this weekend, meaning they didn’t lose ground and they still have a decent chance of obtaining a top four spot. It puts Manchester United fans in an awkward situation though, as a win here would almost gift the title to Liverpool, but a defeat would almost certainly end any chance of them being part of the Champions League next season.

After six defeats in their last eight matches, the players are in need of a huge performance, and will not want to get embarrassed by rivals Manchester City, who would be will on their way to a domestic treble.

Away Team: Manchester City

Manchester City were heartbroken that their quadruple dream came to an end at the hands of Tottenham this past mid-week, but their reaction facing Tottenham again so soon after was commendable.

Tired legs, injured players, and on a surprisingly hot Saturday afternoon, they managed to get over the line against Spurs. Youngster Phil Foden scored his first ever Premier League goal for his local club, and his performance as well as Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, was inspiring. Manchester City know that they are just four wins away from retaining the title, that Liverpool are making them work so hard for, but this is certainly the biggest hurdle left.

Burnley, Leicester and Brighton await them in the final three matches, but undoubtedly Liverpool will be supporting Manchester United and hoping that their arch-rivals can be the ones to give them a huge advantage in the title race. Can Manchester City claim a huge victory at Old Trafford?

Head to Head

Manchester United have had the better record in the history of this fixture, but Manchester City have been the team to gloat in recent seasons – particularly at Old Trafford. Manchester City have won on their last two visits, and also won on 5 out of the last 7.

In the Premier League, Manchester United did win 4-1 against Manchester City back in 2015, but that was their sole victory against Manchester City at home since Sir Alex Ferguson has retired. Pep Guardiola has won as Manchester City on his two previous Premier League visits, both via a 2-1 score line.

In the reverse fixture, Manchester City cruised to a 3-1 home victory with David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan getting the goals.

Predictions and Manchester United vs Manchester City Betting Tips

Manchester United are underdogs for the fixture, priced at 11/2, with City at 4/9 favourites. For the sides to draw, that is priced at 18/5. No side would benefit from drawing this match, and my tip would be to back the home side here in a shock victory.

Logic suggests that Manchester City should win, but Manchester United would feel embarrassed following their weekend defeat so it may conjure up a huge reaction, and the odds of them winning by any score line is incredibly generous. For them to win 2-0 on the night, that is priced at a huge 40/1, and to boost it even further, you can back Marcus Rashford to score first in a Scorecast which takes it up to 240/1.

If you feel that Manchester City will do what comes naturally to them, and that is to continue their great winning streak, then you can boost odds on an away victory in many ways. You can back them to score 3+ goals at 11/8, win by an exact 2-goal margin at 7/2, or even to back them to score in both halves at 1/1.

If you are on the fence, then just back football to be the winner, by betting on there to be more than 4.5 goals at 3/1.
