Races for the Premier League crown and the top four positions in the Premier League amplifies, as Manchester City host Chelsea on Sunday, kicking off at 4:00pm local time. This is also a warm-up for the Carabao Cup final which will take place a fortnight later. Who will win the latest instalment of this pivotal fixture?

Home Team: Manchester City

It’s amazing what can happen in one week of football. Following Manchester City’s shock defeat to Newcastle United, many felt that Liverpool had one hand on the trophy. However, in the seven days that have passed, Liverpool have dropped four points in two draws to Leicester City and West Ham, whereas Manchester City have won against Arsenal and Everton – two commanding performances. Manchester City are still in four competitions and because of this are playing three games a week for the next month, and maybe beyond if they continue to progress to the latter stages of the FA Cup and Champions League.

Against Everton, Manchester City were resolute and only conceded one shot on goal, as they at the end of both halves to secure a 2-0 victory. That win put Manchester City on top of the table heading into the weekend, albeit having played a game extra. Kevin De Bruyne is back and is close to full fitness, as Manchester City’s injury list is decreasing. Things are looking promising for the blue side of Manchester.

Away Team: Chelsea

After losing 4-0 to Bournemouth last Wednesday, there was a huge heap of pressure put on to manager Mauricio Sarri. His philosophy of possession-based football was put under scrutiny, as Chelsea continued to drop points on the road, as they looked toothless up front. Two losses to Tottenham at Wembley, a loss to Arsenal and then the defeat to Bournemouth with only one goal scored spelt trouble for Chelsea.

They are currently fourth in the league, just two points ahead of Manchester United who are in red hot form. Chelsea did win their last game 5-0 against bottom-placed Huddersfield, and did score some fantastic goals in the process. New signing Gonzalo Higuain scored his first two goals for Chelsea, and both were stunning finishes. However, that win has not convinced Chelsea fans that all is well this season, but Sarri has reiterated his style of play will not be changed, and that onlookers will need to be patient. Will his philosophy come to fruition when he meets his master on Sunday?

Head to Head

In recent seasons, the two teams have both shared the spoils, and it even looks as if they take it in turns to beat each other. In the last 14 meetings, stretching back to 2013, the sides have won 6 times each with the other two games being a draw. At the Etihad Stadium, Chelsea have had a favourable record over the years, and last won here in 2016, as they went on to win the 2016/2017 Premier League title.

In last year’s fixture, Manchester City were dominant in a 1-0 victory as they then went on to secure their title. The sides have already met twice this season already, and it is one-apiece. Manchester City won in the Community Shield winning 2-0, with Chelsea winning by the identical score line in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge. This will be the 3rd out of 4 fixtures between the sides this season, with the teams making up the Carabao Cup final, too.

Predictions and Betting Tips

bet now betting on football Manchester City are at 1/2 to get the victory here, with Chelsea the underdogs at 5/1. A draw is priced at 7/2. Chelsea will have had a whole to prepare for the match so that may give them the extra bit of freshness. I believe we will have another twist to the title race here, and I expect this match to be a draw. My score line prediction is 2-2 at 14/1.

To increase the odds even more, you can add a player to score first to complete a score cast. I’d recommended adding Sergio Aguero to that, which makes the odds at 45/1, or for the visitors, Eden Hazard at a fantastic 100/1. Given the philosophy of the two teams, there should be goals galore, so I expect there to be more than 3.5 goals at 6/4. Finally, my halftime/fulltime prediction would be Chelsea/Draw at 22/1. It has all the ingredients for a special clash, let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint!
