Liverpool host Chelsea at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday, kicking off at 4:30pm local time. The match is huge in the title race for the hosts, whereas the visitors need the points just as much to secure a top four spot.

Home Team: Liverpool

Liverpool are matching one of, if not the greatest Premier League champions of all team, as they go into the final 5 matches of the season. Currently they are 1st with a 2-point lead, but have played a game extra to Manchester City. Once Liverpool have played Chelsea, then they can look at a relatively easier fixture list compared to Manchester City, and that may give them a possible edge in the title race. However, this match would be huge for Liverpool, who have been bitten by Chelsea so many times in the past.

It was the Blues who prevented Liverpool from winning the league in 2014, and Chelsea remain the only team to win at Anfield this season. Liverpool will have a fully fit squad to choose from, and the confidence is high in the camp after their first leg 2-0 win against Porto in the Champions League – Naby Keita scored his 2nd goal in 2 games, with Roberto Firmino scoring the other.

Away Team: Chelsea

After losing to Everton last month, Chelsea were perhaps looking at the only way of securing the Champions League place for next season by trying to win the Europa League, where they are favourites to win. However, they have managed to win three Premier League games on the spin – Cardiff, Brighton and West Ham – to put themselves to 3rd over the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham. In their most recent win against West Ham, Eden Hazard was the difference as he scored two goals, with the first one a sublime solo goal, as he weaved through the opponent’s defence as if they weren’t there.

It looks increasingly likely that he will leave Chelsea at the end of the season according to media speculation, and if Chelsea were to fail qualifying for the Champions League – it would almost be a dead-cert. He’ll will have to be on top of his game if Chelsea are to get a result from Anfield, just as he was when they won in the Carabao Cup here earlier in the season.

Head to Head

Liverpool and Chelsea seem to play each other at least three times a season, as they have so often been drawn together in the FA Cup, League Cup and Champions League in the past 15 seasons. It will be the 3rd meeting this season on Sunday, as they played twice within a week at the beginning of the season. First of all, they meet in the Carabao Cup at Anfield, which Chelsea won 2-1 due to a late Eden Hazard strike.

In the Premier League just a few days later at Stamford Bridge, Liverpool back-up striker Daniel Sturridge scored a late stunner against his former club to cancel out Hazard’s earlier goal in a 1-1 result. Over the years, Chelsea have had the upper hand over Liverpool, and have only lost three times in their last 9 visits at Anfield – winning four themselves.

Predictions and Betting Tips Liverpool vs Chelsea

Liverpool are favourites at 8/13 to get the victory, with Chelsea at 17/4 to record their 2nd win at Anfield this season. For the sides to cancel each other out, that is at 3/1. Chelsea may be the bogey club for Liverpool, and they haven’t lost at Anfield since 2012, but I can see Liverpool ending that on Sunday afternoon. Chelsea seem to lack bite away from home, and Liverpool have been utterly dominant, so I expect them to beat Chelsea 2-0, priced at 7/1.

For a Scorecast special, you can add Mohammed Salah to score first in a 2-0 win at 20/1. For the visitors, I do see them losing, but you can get decent value on them to win either half at 15/8, to score 2+ goals at 5/2 or be the last team to score at 7/4. Finally, there has been many classic games between the sides in the past, so if you are tipster, back there to be another one, by betting on both teams to score in both halves, at 17/2.
