Leicester City host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, kicking off at the early time of 12:00pm local time. Both sides have ambitions of qualifying for European positions next season, with Leicester just a few points away from the illusive 7th spot, and Arsenal in the hunt for a top four spot which would return them to the Champions League.

Home Team: Leicester City

Brendan Rodgers has made a positive impact since joining Leicester City, and are right in the hunt to finish 7th in the Premier League. Managing to achieve that would be a gateway to European football for Leicester who had experienced that type of football just a couple of seasons ago.

In Leicester’s last league game at home, they were beaten by Newcastle who managed to sit back for the majority of the game, but win with a ‘smash and grab’. It was a disappointing match for Rodgers, which was a new feeling for him, as they have been terrific prior to that fixture.

Leicester did respond the following week, with a decent outing at West Ham, and showed great character to dig in until the end of the match to salvage a last-minute 2-2 draw. Leicester haven’t played a top six side under Brendan Rodgers, so it will be intriguing to see how he fares first against Arsenal, and then the following week against Manchester City.

Away Team: Arsenal

Arsenal come into this match after two consecutive defeats in the Premier League, which has put their Champions League hopes in jeopardy. They were shocked at home to Crystal Palace, and instead of providing a reaction for manager Unai Emery, they followed up that poor performance with another against Wolves in mid-week.

They were deservedly beaten in a 3-1 result, that saw them go three goals behind in the first-half. Arsenal were full on confidence following their back-to-back wins against Napoli that had qualified them for the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Now, it looks as if they may have to win that competition to assure themselves of a Champions League place next year. Arsenal’s away record is terrible, with 8 teams in the league having a better away points tally. Their only recent away win in the Premier League came at Watford, and that was due to the opposition being reduced to 10 men.

Arsenal have to win all of their remaining games to stand any chance, but their confidence is completely shot at the moment. Can they recover?

Head to Head

Arsenal have a dominant record over Arsenal, with them winning 10 out of 15 Premier League matches since the turn of the millennium. During that time, Leicester have only achieved one victory, but on the bright side, it did come in this fixture last season.

On that occasion, Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and Kelechi Iheanacho got the goals in a 3-1 victory over 10 men Arsenal. Aside from that, it’s been a lot of joy for Arsenal, particularly at the Emirates. On the road, they haven’t won on their two most recent visits, with their last victory coming in a 5-2 win in the 2015/2016 season.

It was Leicester who had the last laugh though, as they went on to win the title. You may remember.

Predictions and Betting Tips

Arsenal are slight favourites for the win, priced at 7/5 to get the victory, with Leicester at 17/10. For the sides to draw, that is at 13/5.

I may have to sit on the fence here, and go for a 2-2 draw at 11/1. I expect an open match, with both sides going for goals, so my first tip would be to back there being more than 4.5 goals at 10/3.

Alternatively, for even bigger earnings, you can back both teams to score in both halves at 11/2. Jamie Vardy of Leicester is at 11/10 to score at any time, whilst Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal is at 13/10, and either choice would be a wise one.

Finally, let’s hope we get a quick start on an early kick-off, with the first goal coming in the first 10 minutes at 5/2.
