Everton host Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, kicking off at 1:30pm local time at Goodison Park. It’s a huge week for the visitors, as they need to bounce back from their elimination in the Champions League, whereas the hosts have to react from the setback last week at Fulham.

Home Team: Everton

Everton’s performances must boggle the minds of manager Marco Silva, as well as their fans, as they continue to deliver fantastic displays one week, and then produce an uncharacteristic showing the next match. This can be proved by Everton’s recent home wins to Arsenal and Chelsea, and their dominant away win at West Ham, but in sheer contrast, their collapse against Newcastle to lose 3-2, and also losing to already relegated Fulham this past week.

As they are at home to a big side, that is competing for top four, you’d expect them to raise their game again. They still have a strong chance of claiming that 7th spot, which could mean European football for the Toffees next year, and that would be considered a fulfilling season.

If Everton are going to gain points from this fixture, then they’ll need to see the best of Bernard, Richarlison and Andre Gomes – who seemed to go missing last week against Fulham.

Away Team: Manchester United

Manchester United managed to turn their season around tremendously in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first three months in charge, but it has gone all horribly wrong in their last 7 matches. They have lost twice to Wolves in that time, including their FA Cup exit, as well as home and away leg defeats to Barcelona who were just a level above them in every aspect.

Their other defeat in that poor run came at Arsenal, their direct top 4 opponents, and whilst United may have won against Watford and West Ham – they were outplayed in both, and lucky to get the victory. They are outsiders to get a top four place which is pivotal for Manchester United’s short term future, and now have to prepare for a week that includes matches against Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea. Nothing less than a win would be accepted here.

Head to Head

Whilst Everton have a shocking record at Old Trafford, their home record against Manchester United isn’t too bad in the past decade. In the Premier League era, no team has won more games at Goodison Park than Manchester United, but Everton can boast four victories in the past decade, as well as a couple of draws.

They did once win three seasons in a row, winning 1-0, then 2-0, and then finally 3-0, but that pattern did not continue. In last season’s fixture, they were instead simply outplayed by Manchester United, as Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard scored two fantastic long range curling shots to win the game 2-0.

Everton vs Manchester United Prediction and Betting Tips

It’s an open game for anyone to call, as the bookmakers have Everton at 21/10, and Manchester United priced at 5/4. For the sides to both go away with a point, that is at 12/5. The Toffees home form has been fantastic of late, and should give them enough encouragement to try and win the game on Sunday. However, that may play into Manchester United’s hands, who I expect will attack more effectively when given space, and perhaps edge a tightly contested battle.

bet now betting on footballTherefore, I’m tipping an away 2-1 win, at 17/2. To boost odds even further, I’m going to back former Everton player Romelu Lukaku to score the opening goal for United, in a Scorecast at 30/1. If you want to back two players from different sides to score, then I’d go for Romelu Lukaku and Gylfi Sigurdsson at 17/2. Everton’s home matches against the top sides have been lowing scoring games of late, with the first goal coming in the 2nd half.

So, my final tip today is to back the first goal to be scored, by either team, from minutes 61-70, priced at a generous 14/1.
