Cardiff City host Liverpool at the weekend, kicking off at 4:00pm local time on Sunday. It’s a defining game in both team’s season, as Liverpool will hope to win to claim top spot, with Cardiff desperately needing points to try and survive relegation.

Home Team: Cardiff City

After losing to Burnley last weekend, manager Neil Warnock and the majority of Cardiff fans would have been fearing the worst, but their win away at Brighton in mid-week has rekindled hope for the Bluebirds. Goals from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Sean Morrison gave Cardiff a huge win, and has narrowed the points from 5 to 2, with a possible 12 more points to play for.

Admittedly, Cardiff have this mammoth task on Sunday, and do finish their season at Old Trafford. However, Brighton in particular have a tough fixture list to end the campaign, and Cardiff have two winnable games against Crystal Palace and Fulham to come.

Any sort of positive result against Liverpool would be miraculous and be worth its weight in gold, and the club may even receive a hefty paycheque from the city of Manchester, too.

Away Team: Liverpool

Liverpool are piling on the pressure on Manchester City, and will not let go of their title ambitions. Since the disappointing draw at Everton back in February, Liverpool have been relentless in the league, by gaining vital wins against Tottenham, Southampton and Chelsea.

None of those fixtures have been easy, with their opponents also playing for a lot, and at times in those games Liverpool were either losing, not playing at their best, or just drawing with a few minutes to go on the clock. They managed to get through it, and a final four matches of Cardiff, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Wolves sounds like a 12-point finish to the season, which could be enough to secure the title for the first time in 29 years.

Liverpool recently beat Chelsea 2-0, with Mohammed Salah scoring a thunderbolt from range, worthy of the title itself, which will be replayed for many years to come – especially if this turns into a vintage Liverpool season.

Head to Head

Liverpool and Cardiff have played each other 33 times in their history, and surprisingly Cardiff come out on top winning 18 matches, compared to Liverpool’s 13 successes. It has to be told though, that 28 of those fixtures did come before 1959, with their five most recent visits occurring since 2007, with Liverpool winning on all occasions.

The big high profile match between the two happened in 2012, when Liverpool defeated Cardiff City on penalties in the League Cup final – Liverpool’s last every trophy success. In their three previous Premier League clashes, Liverpool have dominated Cardiff winning 3-1, 6-3 and 4-1, with the latter happening in the reverse fixture this season.

Prediction and Betting Tips

bet now betting on football Liverpool are overwhelming favourites to get the victory here, as they are priced at 2/9 to win. Cardiff are at 12/1 to pull of an unbelievable shock, or at 5/1 to hold Liverpool to a draw.

It would be another huge win towards the title for Liverpool, and I expect them to get a comfortable 2-0 victory here, at 5/1. Goals from Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane again is priced at 14/5, and you’d be a fool not to back it. To boost your odds on an away victory, you can back Liverpool to win both halves (6/5), to score 4+ goals (5/2), or even win behind, as they did against Southampton a fortnight ago, priced at 9/1.

Finally, if you think Cardiff can hurt Liverpool or even pull off one of the shocks of the season, you can bet on them to score 2+ goals at 13/2, or even back them by winning the match, with a 2-1 result priced at a staggering 40/1.
