Unai Emery’s Arsenal will travel to Newcastle on Saturday afternoon in a bid to earn their third consecutive victory in the Premier League at Newcastle’s expense, knowing that the home side are yet to get a win in their opening four fixtures this season. Newcastle will hope to replicate their performance against Arsenal in April, where they run out 2-1 winners.

Home Team: Newcastle United

newcastle united betting on footballGrit, fortitude and gutsy are three words to describe Newcastle’s performances so far this season, but unfortunately luck has not been on their side as they sit in the bottom three at the time of kick-off.

They were unlucky with how the fixtures came out of the computer back in June, and how the matches themselves have panned out. Close defeats to last season’s champions Manchester City, current league front-runners Chelsea, last season’s 3rd place team Tottenham, as well as a missed a penalty in their only point of the season at Cardiff are all that Newcastle have to show for their season so far.

Facing a resurgent Arsenal side is probably not what the doctor had ordered, but if their recent performances can certainly give them hope. Joselu has scored two of their three Premier League goals this season, and they will hope to get another key goal from him this weekend.

Away Team: Arsenal

arsenal betting on footballIt was never going to be an easy start for the Gunners. After 22 years of Arsene Wenger’s managerial guidance, it was always going to be a difficult start to whomever took over. Unai Emery will have to be given time from the board and the fans, to implement his style of play over the team, and no one should not be expecting instant success, but instead a direction showing positivity for the future.

After their first two defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea, it really couldn’t have started any worse, but back to back wins against West Ham and Cardiff have installed more belief into the team, and a third win would give them 9 points out of 15, and given the fixtures they had, it’s more than acceptable.

Arsenal fans will hope Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang start together again, and pick up where they left off against Cardiff – both chipping in with a fine finish apiece to put their opponents to the sword.

Head to Head

As I alluded to earlier, Newcastle did win the most recent fixture between the two sides, winning 2-1 at St James in April, and that was to put to an end a horrid record for the Geordies against Arsenal. Prior to that, Arsenal hadn’t lost to Newcastle in 12 attempts, winning their last 10 in a row.

Even that win, back in 2010, was at the Emirates, as Newcastle hadn’t defeated Arsenal at home in the league since December 2005. Newcastle will hope that lightening will strike twice, and they’ll be able to beat Arsenal twice at home in the same year, haven’t not won at home against them in the previous 12 years.

Newcastle United vs Arsenal Predictions and Betting Tips

Newcastle are at 3/1 to record their first victory in the Premier League season, whereas you can get Arsenal at 17/20 with most bookmakers.

A draw is at 11/4. Newcastle have lost by a 2-1 score line by three other teams in the ‘big six’ so far this season, so it’s no surprise that is one of the most likely outcomes as it is at 8/1. The only results ‘more likely’ than that are a 1-1 draw, somewhat surprisingly (6/1) and a 1-0 to the Arsenal at 8/1, which is more likely (where have we heard that before?).

I expect this to be tight, but Arsenal to get a 2-0 victory at 9/1. When it comes to goals, Arsenal’s matches this season have averaged at 3.75 goals per game, and Newcastle at 2.25 goals per game. I expect there to be less than 3.5 goals in this game, and you can get odds around 2/5 for that.

There sometimes can be odd score-lines when these two sides meet though, such as 4-4 and 7-3 in the last 8 years, so if you are feeling lucky or audacious – try Newcastle 3-5 Arsenal at 200/1 for laughs!
