Manchester City vs Newcastle Premier League
The Saturday evening fixture for this weekend’s Premier League action takes place at the Etihad, as the champions Manchester City, entertain Newcastle United. Both sides will have been disappointed with their last fixture in the Premier League, as Manchester City dropped points at newly promoted Wolves, and Newcastle gave away a penalty and an own goal late on to Chelsea.
Manchester City’s standards are so high that they cannot afford to drop points two games in a row, and as for Newcastle, they will hope that they can test City as much as they have tested Spurs and Chelsea this season – with hopefully a bit more luck.
Home Team: Manchester City
Manchester City started off this season as they finished the last season. Following their dominant win against Chelsea in the Community Shield, they displayed an authoritative performance to win comfortably at the Emirates against Arsenal, and then absolutely dismantled Huddersfield 6-1 with Aguero in particular looking on top form. However, they were brought back down to earth slightly against an impressive Wolves team this weekend.
Manchester City were 20 minutes from losing the game, but managed to equalise and get a point in which was no more or no less than what they had deserved. Pep Guardiola had praised Wolves, and rightly so, but now Manchester City must forget this setback and now will want to get back to winning ways before the international break.
Away Team: Newcastle United
When the fixtures were announced, Newcastle fans would have been cursing their luck knowing they were going to face Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City in their first four fixtures. Their other game was at Cardiff, and managed to draw that 0-0 due to Kennedy missing a last minute penalty for the Geordies. One point and two goals are all Newcastle have to show for themselves at the beginning of the season, as they sit down in 16th place.
However, if you look closely to the performances, Rafa Benitez will have been proud of how they have conducted themselves in their first three matches, and will hope that the good fortune and results will start to turn their way. However, there is no tougher fixture on paper than Manchester City away, so they may have to wait until after the international break to really kick-start their season.
Head to Head
24th of September, 2005. That is the date we have to travel back to for the last time Newcastle defeated Manchester City in the Premier League, and even that fixture was at St James Park. We have to go back to 1984 for the last time Newcastle won at Manchester City in the league, in the then-called ‘division two’.
Since Newcastle’s last league win in 2005, Manchester City have won 18 out of 21 league matches. At the Etihad, the last five score lines have been 3-1, 6-1, 5-0, 4-0 and 4-0 to the home side. That’s very grim reading for a Newcastle fan, but let me give you some hope, Newcastle did win a League Cup match 2-0 back in 2014. David Silva and Fernandinho are the only survivors from that fixture.
Betting Tips and Predictions Manchester City vs Newcastle
Manchester City are rightly overwhelming favourites for this fixture, as they are 1/8 to win the match. Newcastle are at 20/1 to win, and even a draw is looking very attractive at 7/1.
If you were to go by this fixture for the last 6 years, there has always been 4 or more goals (5/6), but I am going to be ballsy and predict that Manchester City will win, but due to a smaller margin.
Newcastle have set themselves up well so far this season, and haven’t conceded more than two. Therefore, I predict there to be less than 3 goals in the match at a generous 11/5, but for City to win the match 2-0 at 5/1.
If you like to boost your earnings, and confident Manchester City will dispatch Newcastle like they have done in the past, then for them to score 5 or more goals, then it’s at 10/3.
