PSG welcome Toulouse to the Parc des Princes on Sunday evening, kicking off at 9:00pm local time. The hosts will want to bounce back following a shock defeat to Rennes last week, whilst Toulouse will hope to keep their unbeaten start intact.

Home Team: Paris St Germain

PSG started last season by winning their first 14 league matches, suffering their first defeat on match day 23. However, it’s only taken them until the 2nd match day to lose their unbeaten run already this season, which shows that they are less primed today, than they were 12 months ago. They haven’t made any offensive signings, but instead, bulking the midfield and defensive options, with only Abdou Diallo the only new signing that started their 2-1 defeat to Rennes.

There is still question marks over Neymar, and his potential move away from the club, which can only be a distraction to the rest of the group as they prepare for games. The more worrying thing from their defeat to Rennes last week was that PSG’s only goal was gifted to them courtesy of the other team making a huge error. Usually, PSG score for fun, and rarely draw a blank. Questions will now be asked of this team, but can they respond?

Away Team: Toulouse

Toulouse finished in 16th position last year, and were only four points from the drop. They ended the season in poor form, not winning in their final seven matches of the campaign. However, after an intensive pre-season, and some new additions including Wesley Said and Efthymios Koulouris, they have started this season on the front foot. They narrowly avoided defeat on the opening weekend, as they faced newly promoted Brest, and were losing for the majority of the game, before scoring a late leveller with just a few minutes left on the clock. In the 2nd game, Toulouse hosted their first league game of the season, against Dijon who will also be in a relegation fight this season. In an even game, Toulouse edged it 1-0 which could prove to be a vital three points come the end of the season. With two relatively easy matches on paper so far, they’ll be in for a different test come Sunday.

Head to Head

PSG may have done the double over Toulouse in last year’s campaign, but the latter could hold their head high after both matches. Toulouse opted to ‘park the bus’, and narrowly lost 1-0 on both occasions. PSG, as expected, have a fairly dominant record against Toulouse, winning the last four matches in a row, and winning eight of the last eleven. Toulouse last beat PSG in 2016, via a 2-0 score line. The last time they took points from PSG away from home, was as recent as 2017 in a 0-0 draw, but that was the only point they gained on their travels to the capital since 2008.

My Predictions and Betting Tips

PSG are at 1/10 to get a win here, with Toulouse at 20/1 to win, or at 17/2 to get a draw. The odds suggest it will be a walkover, and that should prove to be the case. Obviously, my money will be on PSG to win, but there is no value in betting on the match outright. Therefore, to increase your earnings, back PSG to win by at least 4 goals at 7/4. My score line prediction would be a 4-0 home win at 15/2.

For goal scorers, you can back both new signing Pablo Sarabia and wonder kid Kylian Mbappe to score at 9/2. I’d also have a cheeky bet on Edison Cavani to outscore the opposition at 5/4.

Finally, if you believe Toulouse can cause a bit of a stir here, you don’t necessarily need to back them to win to get good earnings, instead, by backing their striker Wesley Said to score in the first 10 minutes, you’ll get odds of 66/1! They could go on to lost by three, four or five, but you’ll still get a hefty reward.
