PSG host Monaco on Sunday night, kicking off at 9:00pm local time. The hosts have failed on three occasions to secure the league title, whereas Monaco are still in need of points to secure top-flight football for next season.

Home Team: PSG

PSG have been praised so many times this season, including by myself, but they are well and truly living up to their ‘bottlers’ tag, as they have failed to secure the league title in their three last matches. First of all, they were unable to beat mediocre Strasbourg at home in a game we saw the biggest miss in the history of football.

After that, they faced a tricky fixture to Lille, as they ending up imploding and losing the match 5-1. Then in mid-week, despite taking the lead, they eventually lost 3-2 to bottom-half of the table Nantes. PSG could have wrapped this title up before April, and set all types of records, but their recent form, and throughout 2019 in general, has been alarming. Neymar and Edison Cavani are currently injured, and Kylian Mbappe had been dropped in their recent match due to comments he allegedly made about the team lacking personality.

It appears without their front three, this PSG side look average at best, so you’d expect the young superstar to be called back, and for PSG to finally be crowned champions.

Away Team: Monaco

A disastrous season for Monaco had finally received some good fortune, as they climbed out of the relegation zone, and finally find themselves 7 points clear of the drop, with just 6 games to go. Hiring Thierry Henry only compounded a bad start to the season, but rehiring Leonardo Jardim seems to have stabilised the club once again, and their form since February has been sound.

Huge victories against Lyon and Lille were recorded in that time, which shows that they had too much quality to be even drawn into a relegation scrap in the first place. That win against Lille, which was achieved with a stoppage time goal, seems to have had an opposite effect on the side though.

The players and fans were celebrating that goal and win, perhaps feeling their club was back on the rise, but since then, they have failed to win a game. Can they get a key result against, and postpone PSG’s title celebrations?

Head to Head

The sides have met 7 times since 2017, in three different domestic competitions, and PSG have won on every occasion. Out of those 7 wins, the more recent wins have been demolitions with score lines such as 7-1, 4-0 (twice) and 3-0. In the 2016 calendar year, Monaco did achieve two wins against PSG, winning 3-1 at home, and 2-0 away, but haven’t had any joy since.

That win in 2016, was Monaco’s only win in Paris since 2010. Monaco may not expect a victory, or even a draw, but the least they would want is to walk from the stadium with their heads held up – which hasn’t been the case this past couple of years!

PSG vs Monaco Prediction, odds and betting tips

PSG are at 1/2 favourites to get the victory here, with Monaco at 9/2 to spoil the party. Even a draw wouldn’t exactly secure the title for the hosts, and that is priced at 15/4.

Despite their poor form having not won in three matches, betting on PSG to win at home in the French Ligue at 1/2 can only be considered as generous. I’d have to back a home win, because a fourth game in a row without victory would be literally unbelievable. My score line prediction would be 4-1, at 16/1, and to boost odds even further, you can turn it into a Scorecast with Kylian Mbappe scoring first, which takes it to 40/1.

To increase earnings on a home victory, you can back them to be leading from the first half, in a HT/FT bet of PSG/PSG at 6/5, or back them to score 4+ goals at 10/3.

Finally, if you feel PSG will bottle it again, you can back Monaco to win or draw in a double chance bet at 11/8, or be even bold, and back them to win from behind at a massive 18/1.
