Real Madrid host Huesca on Sunday evening at the Santiago Bernabeu, kicking off at 8:45pm local time. Los Blancos have little to play for, except to impress the returning Zinedine Zidane, whereas Huesca are fighting for survival.

Home Team: Real Madrid

It’s been a disastrous season for Real Madrid no matter how you look at it. Losing the El Clasico three times, being out of the title race for the duration of the season, and the ultimate nail in the coffin was their elimination from the Champions League to Ajax in the round of 16. Real Madrid have literally nothing to play for except to guarantee their place in the top four, which should be an easy task, or challenge themselves to overtake Atletico Madrid and finish 2nd in the table. Zinedine Zidane has come back to manage the club, and in his return, they were able to defeat Celta Vigo at home, 2-0.

Zidane brought the likes of attacking midfielder Isco, and goalkeeper Keylor Navas back in the team, and both produced fantastic performances. Real Madrid may start to regain confidence again, as they look to build a side who can challenge on all fronts next season. Let’s not forget, they are the current three-time holders of the Champions League, and maybe their season has made them look far worse than they actually are.

Away Team: Huesca

Huesca’s first season in the top flight of Spanish football was never going to be easy, and it’s fair to say that they have made the 20th position their home for the majority of the season. However, they have 10 matches left, and are far from relegated just yet. They have acquired 22 points so far, and are currently 7 points away from safety. With a possible 30 points to play for, they still should have some belief that they can pull off a minor miracle here.

Huesca recently beat Sevilla 2-1, and their fans were hoping it would bring them closer to survival, but once again, their inconsistency shows, as they followed up that victory with two defeats, to Alaves and Getafe. Huesca may have to face Real Madrid and Barcelona in the coming weeks, but also have winnable games against the likes of Rayo Vallecano, Celta Vigo and Eibar to come. It would be one of the great La Liga stories if they were to maintain their place in the top flight, especially if they started their survival with an unlikely victory at Zidane’s Real Madrid.

Head to Head

The sides have only played each other once in their history, which was the reverse fixture back in December. Gareth Bale scored the only goal in the match, 8 minutes into the game, as Real Madrid were 1-0 winners. It wasn’t a great game on the eye for the spectators, but Huesca would have been proud with their performance, as they had more clear chances than their opponents.

Predictions and Betting Tips

bet now betting on football Real Madrid are overwhelming favourites at 1/7 to win, with Huesca at 16/1 to get arguably their most famous victory. For the sides to share the points, that is priced at 7/1. With Zidane back on the bench, it’s hard to see Real Madrid slipping up in this game, but crazier things have happened at the Bernabeu this season. I’d expect Real Madrid to win by a 3-1 score line, priced at 10/1.

The bookies will reward you if you favour Huesca in any way, so I would recommend considering backing Real Madrid to only win by a 1-goal margin (4/1), Huesca to win a half (6/1) or even them to score in both halves at 9/1. If you believe that Real Madrid can really turn on the style then, be bold, and back them to score 5+ goals at 11/4. Finally, Gareth Bale scored in Zidane’s return last week, and for him and Karim Benzema to both get on the score sheet, that is at 5/1.
