It’s top against bottom in La Liga this weekend, as Huesca host Barcelona on Saturday afternoon, kicking off at 4:15pm local time. Huesca are looking at an immediate return to the second tier in Spanish football, whereas it’s a matter of time before Barcelona are crowned champions for the 2nd successive season.
Home Team: Huesca
Huesca currently occupy 20th in the table, and they have been strong favourites to be relegated all season. They have shown plenty of fight at times through the season, but their experience, and lack of quality looks to condemn them back to the 2nd tier after their first ever season in the top flight. With 7 games to go, and 21 points to play for, Huesca are 6 points away from safety, so are in desperate need of getting points.
Their last win was back in early March, as they beat a very talented Sevilla side, but in the in the last five matches since then, they have just acquired two points and are now staring down the barrel. In those five matches, they gave Real Madrid an excellent match, which saw them take the lead and get a late equaliser, but ultimately fell to a 3-2 loss. Huesca need to get at least 3 or 4 wins to stand any chance of surviving, and they’ll see any points against Barcelona as a huge and unexpected bonus.
Away Team: Barcelona
Barcelona were up against Atletico Madrid last weekend in a top-of-the-table clash, and the match was made easier thanks to the visitors being reduced to 10 men following Diego Costa’s red card. It took plenty of patience, but Barcelona managed to break down Atletico’s resistance by scoring two late goals – via Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. That win had extended their lead to the top of the table to 11 points, meaning they are just 4 wins away from guaranteeing the title, and could even need less.
This upcoming match is sandwiched between two Champions League clashes with Manchester United, which certainly takes priority, so there is a chance many players will be rested here, giving Huesca some added confidence. Having said that, even the squad players of Barcelona have a huge amount of talent, and they’ll not want to get complacent when striding towards the title.
Head to Head
The sides have only played each other three times in their history, with the first meeting coming in the Copa Del Rey in the 2014/2015 season. Barcelona won 4-0 away in the first leg, before winning the return leg 8-1 at home. The aggregate score of 12-1 is as one-way traffic as it gets, and their most recent meeting in the La Liga this season, wasn’t too dissimilar. Back in September, Huesca took a shock lead at the Nou Camp inside 3 minutes but the scoring was far from over in that game. Barcelona then took control and eventually scored 8 again, with the final score being 8-2. In three matches, Huesca have conceded 20 goals to Barcelona.[geot exclude_country="US" ][/geot]
Huesca vs Barcelona Predictions and Betting Tips
[geot exclude_country="US,CA" ][/geot] The bookmakers have caught on with the odds, as they have only put Barcelona at 8/13 favourites to win. The hosts are at 19/5 to get a famous win, or 3/1 to earn a credible draw. As I mentioned previously, Barcelona look set to rest players with the league in the bag, and their clash with Manchester United deemed way more important. Nonetheless, I still expect Barcelona to get the job done, so I expect them to narrowly win 2-1, priced at 15/2.
[geot country="US,CA" ][/geot] I wouldn’t recommend betting on any scorers as the line-up for the visitors is quite unpredictable, but if you want to back the hosts to get the first goal, top scorer Ezequiel Ávila is at 9/1. Huesca scored two goals in the reverse fixture, and have also score 2+ goals in their three most recent fixtures, so for them to achieve that again, is priced at 2/1. Finally, to get more value backing Barcelona, you can tip them to win by a 1-goal margin at 11/4, score in both halves at 6/5 or to score 4+ goals at 9/2.
