Getafe host Real Madrid in La Liga on Thursday evening, kicking off at 9:30pm local time in Spain. The match is huge for the hosts, as they occupy 4th spot with 5 matches left in the season, and could qualify for the Champions League.

Can they overcome the difficult task of beating Real Madrid to pursue their dreams?

Home Team: Getafe

Getafe have had a phenomenal season by their standards, and have propelled themselves to a top four position as we enter the final month of the season. Even if they were to fail, and drop out, the season can still be considered a success as will most likely qualify for the Europa League, which is something that they had missed out on last season by a mere three points.

Last weekend, Getafe managed to win against direct rivals Sevilla 3-0, with top scorers Jaime Mata and Jorge Molina each scoring from the penalty spot, and then a further goal from the latter to complete the victory.

Both sides ended with 10 men, but Getafe won’t be too disheartened as they fought hard to earn a precious victory. Can they keep the momentum going and get an unlikely win against Real Madrid?

Away Team: Real Madrid

It’s fair to say that Real Madrid are a one-man show at the moment since Zinedine Zidane returned to manage the club, and it’s not him, but his French compatriot Karim Benzema stealing the headlines. He scored a hat-trick in Real Madrid’s comfortable win against Athletic Bilbao this past weekend, and he has now scored Real Madrid’s last 8 goals in all competitions.

He has stepped up to the plate, but Gareth Bale was wasteful in front of goal once again, and there are strong links with him moving away from Madrid at the end of the season. Real Madrid have a top four place guaranteed and are only playing for pride now, and would hope to topple Atletico Madrid above them.

They are currently 4 points behind, and would need to win all of their matches to stand any chance of achieving a runners-up position.

Head to Head

Real Madrid’s head to head record with Getafe is completely one-sided, as they have had no issues getting victories against their local rivals in the past. Real Madrid have won the last 10 meetings, and some games have been by dominant score lines such as 7-3, 5-1 and 4-1.

Getafe did get a win back in 2012 – the last time they collected some points against Real Madrid. That sole victory is their only one in the two clubs last 18 meetings. Real Madrid had won 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in August, and won 2-1 in their last visit to Getafe, with former player Cristiano Ronaldo getting a late winner.

Predictions and Tips

Getafe are at 3/1 to get a victory here, with Real Madrid favourites at 4/5. For the sides to draw, that is at 13/5. Real Madrid were held by Leganes, and beaten by Valencia in their two last away games, so there is every chance that they can falter again.

I’d pick Getafe to get a narrow victory here, so I’d back a 2-1 win at 12/1. If you want a more ‘comfortable’ bet, you can bet on Getafe to draw or win in a double chance bet at 10/11. Jaime Mata and Karim Benzema are in confident moods for their respective sides, and you can back both players to score at 7/2.

Finally, Getafe managed to get 3 goals against Sevilla at the weekend, so for them to repeat that feat again, you can be bold and back them to score 3+ goals at 9/1.
