Everton host West Ham at Goodison Park this Sunday at 4:00pm local time, in this weekend’s prime television slot. All the pressure appears to be on the away side, as they sit rock bottom of the Premier League after losing all four of their opening matches.

Home Team: Everton

New manager Marco Silva will have be quietly pleased with his team’s performances so far this season, but there will be a slight annoyance for him knowing that they should have got more points than the six that they have at the moment. Despite staying undefeated, they were reduced to ten men in twice of their games, and both of those games resulted in dropped points from winning positions.

Adding to that, they were unable to beat Huddersfield at home, meaning their only win so far this season was a narrow 2-1 home success against Southampton. Everton’s main summer signing Richarlison was in fantastic form, scoring three in the first two matches before being sent off in the third match against Bournemouth.

Unfortunately, he will miss out against West Ham this Sunday due to suspension, but they have no concerns other than that.

Away Team: West Ham

west ham unitedAll West Ham fans will want to wake up on Sunday, travel to the city of Liverpool and hope its August the 12th again.

On that day, they were facing Liverpool on the opening day with far more optimism, hoping to improve on last year’s poor season with new manager, former Premier League winner, Manuel Pellegrini in charge. However, it started with an emphatic 4-0 result, and it’s gone from bad to worse as they followed that with defeats to Bournemouth, Arsenal, and most recently at home to Wolves, when they lost courtesy of a last minute goal from being careless in possession.

New signings such as Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko have shown promising performances, but not enough to set the Premier League on fire, and will take more time to adjust. West Ham will be desperate to get at least one point on the board, and start to grow some optimism moving ahead, as many expected them to challenge for European places this season.

If they lose today, they will already be 9 points behind that target, and we’re halfway through September.

Head to Head

Premier League bettingEverton and West Ham have faced off 140 times in a 111 year history, with Everton getting the better of their opponents on 69 occasions, with West Ham winning 39. However, in recent fixtures there has not been a lot to separate the two sides, with both of them enjoying plenty of success.

From 2007 to 2015, Everton were the dominant side in the fixture, not losing in 14 consecutive matches against the Hammers. However, in the last three years, West Ham and Everton have won three matches apiece. In the corresponding fixture last year, Everton run out comfortable 4-0 winners, with Wayne Rooney getting a hat-trick including a certain goal from his own half.

A win for West Ham at Goodison Park on Sunday will only be their 3rd win at the stadium since 1994, with successes back in 2007 and 2016.

Everton vs West Ham Predictions and Betting Tips

Everton are slight favourites to come out victorious at 21/20, with West Ham at 12/5. A draw is priced at 5/2. Despite losing their first four matches and a couple of those to lesser opposition, the odds suggest that it is likely for West Ham to grab at least a point this Sunday.

West Ham’s last success at Goodison Park was a 3-2 thriller, and you can get that at 33/1. However, I expect this outcome to be a draw, so a 2-2 draw at 12/1 looks respectable.

Turkish striker Cenk Tosun is most likely to score for Everton at 4/1, but if you fancy being a bit more daring, then opt for defender Yerry Mina to score from a set-piece as he did for Colombia twice at the World Cup, which is at 20/1.

Finally, I think this match has the potential for many goals, so for there to be over 3.5 goals in this match, that is priced at a reasonable 7/4.
