Week 3 Preview – New Orleans Saints (1-1) at Atlanta Falcons (1-1)

The New Orleans Saints enter Week 3 of the NFL season in a critical matchup against the division rival Atlanta Falcons. Both teams have each won and lost a game to begin the season and will face each other in a highly anticipated divisional matchup.

Drew Brees will look to help the Saints offense get back on track, while the Falcons will hope to limit the Saints offense and
win their second game in a row.

New Orleans Saints Offense

Drew Brees threw for over 240 yards, and two touchdown passes against the Browns, as they narrowly won 21-18. The Saints rushing attack struggled throughout the entire game, as RB Alvin Kamara led the team with 46 rushing yards.

The Saints will need to have more success on the ground game if they hope to overcome a stout Atlanta Falcons team. WR Michael Thomas was the favorite target for QB Drew Brees, as Thomas finished with 12 catches and 89 yards for two touchdowns against the Browns.

Atlanta Falcons Offense

QB Matt Ryan had a solid game against the Carolina Panthers, as he completed 23 out of 28 pass attempts for 272 yards and two touchdown passes. The Falcons will continue to be without services of starting RB Devonta Freeman, as RB Tevin Coleman filled in nicely with 107 yards against the Panthers.

The Falcons will look to gain an edge in time of possession and keep the Saints offense on the sidelines. WR Julio Jones is one of the very best receivers in the league, as the Falcons will rely on his playmaking ability against the Saints.

New Orleans Saints Defense

The New Orleans Saints defense struggled in containing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense in the season opener but played much better against the Cleveland Browns. LB A.J. Klein led the team with nine tackles and will look to stop the dynamic playmaking abilities of the AtlantaFalcons offense.

DE Cameron Jordan had two sacks against the Cleveland Browns and will look to pressure QB Matt Ryan into making mistakes. DB Marcus Williams also intercepted apass against the Browns, as the Saints will look to force turnovers and make life difficult for the Atlanta Falcons.

Atlanta Falcons Defense

atlanta falcons betting.footballThe Atlanta Falcons only had two sacks against the Carolina Panthers and will need to improve their pass rush to make it difficult for QB Drew Brees to remain in the pocket. Pro Bowl Safety Keanu Neal isn’t available due to an ACL injury, which makes it difficult for the Falcons to stop the high-flying offense of the New Orleans Saints.

This matchup can quickly become a shootout for both teams if either defense is unable to contain the dynamic playmakers in the passing and rushing attack.

New Orleans Saints Special Teams

Wil Lutz made two out of three field goal attempts in Week 2 but will need to improve upon his accuracy against the Atlanta Falcons. Thomas Morstead had four punts that averaged over 44 yards and two of those landed inside the twenty-yard line.

Taysom Hill had one kickoff return for 47 yards, as the Saints will need more big plays in the return game if they hope to defeat the Falcons on the road.

Atlanta Falcons Special Teams

Kicker Matt Bryant was successful in his lone field goal attempt of 44 yards, as he continues to be one of the most reliable kickers in the NFL. Punter Matt Bosher had four punt attempts against the Panthers, and two of those punts landed inside the twenty yard-line.

Rookie WR Calvin Ridley had two kickoff returns and averaged 25 yards per return in Week 2, as he will look to improve upon those numbers against the Saints.

Key Injuries

NFL betting on footballThe New Orleans Saints didn’t suffer any key injuries in their matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
