Week 4 Preview – Minnesota Vikings (1-1-1) at Los Angeles Rams (3-0)

The Minnesota Vikings will face the talented Los Angeles Rams in a Thursday night primetime matchup between two NFC foes. The Vikings suffered a surprising upset against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3 and will look to bounce back against a Los Angeles Rams team that has yet to lose a game this season. All eyes will be on the primetime matchup between two playoff
contenders.

Minnesota Vikings Offense

The Minnesota Vikings were unable to have any success on the ground game, as they only combined for 13 rushing yards on six attempts. Instead, the primary focus of the Vikings offense was in the passing game, as QB Kirk Cousins completed 40 out of 55 pass attempts for 296 yards and a passing touchdown.

However, Cousins did throw one interception, as the Vikings struggled the entire game and only scored six points. The Vikings will need to play much better on the offensive side of the ball if they hope to overcome the defense of the Los Angeles Rams.

Los Angeles Rams Offense

The Los Angeles Rams continue to have one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL, as QB Jared Goff threw for over 350 yards and three passing touchdowns against the Chargers. RB Todd Gurley ran for over 100 yards and also had a rushing touchdown. WR Robert Woods led the team with ten receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns.

The Rams offense is a difficult matchup for any team in the NFL, and the Vikings must stop these dynamic playmakers if they hope to defeat the Rams.

Minnesota Vikings Defense

The Minnesota Vikings have a top defense in the NFL but were unable to contain the Buffalo Bills in a surprising defeat. The Vikings were able to sack the quarterback three times but will need to improve upon these numbers if they hope to stop the Rams on offense. The Rams have playmakers throughout the offense, and the Vikings will need to force turnovers and pressure QB Jared Goff into making mistakes.

Los Angeles Rams Defense

The Los Angeles Rams held the Chargers to 23 points, despite losing both starting cornerbacks to an ankle injury. The Vikings will look to play much better on the offensive side of the ball and take advantage of a Rams secondary that will be without two key starters.

These backup players will have to step up against a Vikings team that likes to throw the ball often. Losing CB
Aqib Talib and CB Marcus Peters will make it much more difficult to stop the pass and may be the difference between winning or losing.

Minnesota Vikings Special Teams

The Vikings never had an opportunity to kick a field goal or extra point against the Buffalo Bills. The Vikings also never made an impact in the return game, as they only forced one punt during the entire game. The Vikings will need to force more punts and take advantage of any opportunities on special teams.

Punter Matt Wile was forced to punt five times against the Bills, but only one of those punts landed inside the twenty yard-line.

Los Angeles Rams Special Teams

Kicker Sam Ficken made all five of his extra points but did miss his only field goal attempt of 46 yards. Punter Johnny Hekker only had to punt the ball once against the Chargers, as the Rams hope to continue score points and avoid having to punt the ball to the Vikings. The Rams were unable to make any big plays in the return game against the Chargers.

Key Injuries

The Minnesota Vikings did not suffer any significant injuries against the Bills but were without the services of RB Dalvin Cook due to a hamstring injury. Cook has a good chance to be ready to play against the Rams. On the other side, the Rams lost both starting cornerbacks to an ankle injury.

CB Aqib Talib and CB Marcus Peters are both unlikely to be available against the Vikings. The Rams also lost kick returner JoJo Natson to a broken hand, and he is out indefinitely.
