Week 13 Preview – Cleveland Browns (4-6-1) at Houston Texans (8-3)

The Cleveland Browns will play against the Houston Texans in a matchup between two teams in the AFC. The Cleveland Browns have won two out of their last three games since firing their head coach, but they face a Texans team that is on an eight-game winning streak. The Texans are currently in first place in the AFC South and have a great opportunity to win the division and possibly gain a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Cleveland Browns Offense

The Cleveland Browns defeated the rival Cincinnati Bengals last week and will look to win their third game in a row against the Houston Texans. Rookie QB Baker Mayfield had one of his best games of the season, as he completed 19 out of 26 pass attempts for 258 yards and four touchdowns against the Bengals. TE David Njoku was his top target, as he caught five passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. The Browns focused primarily on a ball control offense, as RB Nick Chubb had 28 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown and he will continue to play a significant role in the offense for the remainder of the season. The Browns will need to focus on protecting their quarterback if they hope to gain an upset victory, as the Texans have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL.

Houston Texans Offense

The Houston Texans defeated the Tenessee Titans on Monday Night Football, as they remain one of the hottest teams in the NFL. QB Deshaun Watson continues to play at a high level, as he completed 19 out of 24 pass attempts for 210 yards and two touchdowns against the Titans last week. WR Demaryius Thomas played a big role in the game, as he caught four passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns against an overmatched Titans defense. The Texans also had plenty of success on the ground, as RB Lamar Miller had 12 carries for 162 yards and a touchdown, while QB Deshaun Watson had nine carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. The Cleveland Browns have a defense that is ranked 31st in the NFL in yards allowed per game, which gives the Houston Texans a perfect opportunity to continue to put up big numbers on offense.

Cleveland Browns Defense

The Cleveland Browns will have a difficult task in slowing down the Houston Texans offense on the road. The Browns have one of the worst defenses in the NFL and will need all of their players to play at a much higher level if they hope to pull off an upset victory over a Texans team that has won eight games in a row. Forcing turnovers and focusing on a ball control offense will be one of the primary keys to victory for the Browns against the Texans.

Houston Texans Defense

The defense of the Houston Texans applied pressure to the Tennesse Titans throughout the game, as they finished with six sacks and two forced fumbles. DE Christian Covington led the team with 2.5 sacks, as the Titans were unable to have any success in protecting their quarterback. The Houston Texans have a defense that is ranked eighth in the NFL in offensive yards allowed per game, as they will be a difficult test for Cleveland Browns rookie QB Baker Mayfield.

Cleveland Browns Special Teams

Greg Joseph did not have a chance to kick any field goals but was perfect on all five of his extra point attempts. Britton Colquitt had to punt four times, as he averaged around 47 yards per punt against the Bengals.

Houston Texans Special Teams

Ka’imi Fairbairn made both of his field goal attempts and all four of his extra point attempts against the Titans last week. Trevor Daniel had to punt five times, as he averaged around 45 yards per punt.

Key Injuries

The Cleveland Browns did not suffer any major injuries last week against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Houston Texans lost WR Keke Coutee to a hamstring injury last week, and he may not be available to play against the Cleveland Browns.
