Having missed out of Champions League football last season, both of these London giants are out for redemption and what better way is there to redeem some lost pride other than winning a derby? Chelsea struggled against their North London rivals in the past two seasons, reversing a period of dominance that saw Chelsea initiating a power shift in the English football following Arsenal’s invincible days.

Arsenal also claimed the bragging rights when the sides met on pre-season but it won’t help them much, knowing the stakes are much higher now. Arsenal and Chelsea both looks to be a work in progress but lack of genuine wingers could come back to hunt Arsenal once again.

CHELSEA

Maurizzio Sarri has brought his trademark high-tempo playing style in England as the former Napoli manager saw his new side Chelsea dismantling Huddersfield away from home. Even though the scoreline suggests a complete sweep out, the reality is, Chelsea were far from their absolute best. Goals from Kante and Pedro, sandwiched by a penalty strike from newcomer Jorginho, secured the game for Chelsea but there were numerous moments throughout the game when Huddersfield made their visitors uncomfortable.

Kante’s switch to a bit more advanced and wider position gifted the World Cup winner a rare goal but it also allowed David Wagner’s men to roam with more freedom and pace through the flanks as Jorginho was tasked to bridge the link between Chelsea’s attack and defense. Not the perfect execution sure, but the West Londoners would be more than content with the 3 points they got with a hefty goal difference.

Possible Lineup: (3-3-4) Arrizabalaga (Gk) Alonso, Luiz, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Barkley, Jorginho, Kante, Hazard, Morata, Willian

ARSENAL

For the first time in more than two decades, there’s a new man in the Arsenal dugout. But Unai Emery didn’t had a smooth start to his Arsenal journey as the Arsene Wenger successor helplessly saw his new look Arsenal being severely outplayed by a marauding Manchester City side at their own backyard.

It’s always a tough ask to stop a side of Manchester City’s caliber and it gets even harder if Pep Guardiola & Co. happens to be your very first assignment, but Emery would have a hard time justifying some of the decisions he made.

Mesut Ozil seemed to be a largely ineffective figure out wide, failing to make any meaningful contributions whatsoever. Petr Cech got the nod ahead of new signing Bernd Leno, who did well to make some good saves but was poor in terms of ball distribution-which seems to be a key aspect of Emery’s game-plan. He would also reconsider starting Matteo Guendouzi, who looks to be a very young prospect but needs a bit more polishing before claiming a permanent spot in the Gunners’ lineup.

Possible lineup: (4-2-3-1) Cech (Gk), Bellerin, Sokratis, Mustafi, Lichtsteiner, Torreira, Xhaka, Mkhitaryan, Ramsey, Ozil, Aubameyang
