It’s an all-English tie, as Tottenham meet Manchester City in the quarter finals of the Champions League. The first leg will be played at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, kicking off at 8:00pm on Tuesday night.

Home Team: Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham played their first game in their new stadium this past Wednesday night, as goals from Son Heung-min and Christian Eriksen secured a 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace. The stadium was invested in due to massive matches just like this one, as Tottenham will want to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history. Their season has started to falter in recent months with domestic cup exits, as well as a huge dip in league form which has meant they are now in a real battle for a top four position, and guaranteeing Champions League football next season.

However, the new stadium may have rejuvenated belief back into the squad again. On the injury front, Tottenham seem to have a full squad to choose from, and have had 6 days to prepare for this clash. Harry Kane will captain the side, and will have to be at his prolific best if they are to get a first leg advantage here.

Away Team: Manchester City

Manchester City’s quadruple is still on, as they beat Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final this past weekend, securing another final for this season. Now, their attention turns to the competition they have never won in their history, with their best ever performance back in the 2015/2016 season, where they reached the semi-finals. Overcoming Spurs would match that, but Manchester City are favourites to win the competition, with Pep Guardiola at the realm, and he would not accept failure in this competition three years in a row.

The minimum would be a final place, but this all-English tie, and a potential semi-final with Juventus will be a tough ask for anyone. Manchester City are waiting on the fitness of Sergio Aguero, who missed their last two matches with an injury, but if he doesn’t play, the talented Gabriel Jesus will play once again – and hope to score in a 2nd consecutive match.

Head to Head

This will be the first ever meeting between the two sides in a European competition. Overall in history, there is very little between the two, with Manchester City winning 61 times in their history, with Tottenham winning 60. City have had the upper hand in recent seasons, as they have won the last three matches between the sides, including their previous meeting this season at Wembley, which they won 1-0. Manchester City also won at Wembley last season, in a 3-1 win, but it’ll be fascinating to see how the sides will fare at the new stadium for the first time. Tottenham last beat City back in 2016, where they were 2-0 at White Hart Lane, giving Pep Guardiola his first defeat as Manchester City boss.

Predictions and Betting Tips Tottenham vs Manchester City

bet now betting on footballTottenham are at 3/1 to win on the night, with Manchester City priced at 5/6 favourites. For the sides to draw, that is at 14/5. You can bet on who to qualify, which currently gives Tottenham at 10/3 with City at 1/5. According to the odds, Spurs don’t seem to have much of a chance, but the atmosphere should be electric, and the players should play out of their skins to get an infamous victory. I expect Tottenham to win on the night, but probably lose over the course of two legs. Therefore, I’d back a 2-1 first leg win, priced at 12/1.

Goals from Harry Kane would be likely, as he will be desperate to score in front of his fans in the new stadium, so he is at 7/5 to score at any time, or you can back him to score a brace at 9/1. For the visitors, with Aguero possibly being out, I’d back either Gabriel Jesus (2/1) or Raheem Sterling (11/8) to score at any time. If you want to back the favourites, you can boost your odds by backing Manchester City to win by exactly 2 goals at 4/1. Finally, I expect Tottenham to come out the traps, so wouldn’t be surprised to see them get a relatively early goal, so I’d back the game to get its first goal from minutes 11-20 at 10/3.
