Manchester City host Tottenham in the 2nd leg of their Champions League quarter final showdown, kicking off at 8:00pm local time on Wednesday. Spurs take a 1-goal advantage into this game, as they look to progress to the semi-finals for the first time, and at the same time, thwarting Manchester City’s quadruple bid.

Home Team: Manchester City

Manchester City’s first leg loss to Tottenham was their first defeat since the end of January, and thankfully for them it’s only considered just one half of a tie. Defeats in any English cup or the Premier League would have stopped their quadruple bid, but at least this defeat gives Manchester City a chance of retrieval. In the first leg, they had dominated possession, but lacked a cutting edge we are so used to seeing from them.

The likes of Kevin de Bruyne, and Bernando Silva were missing in the fixture, and maybe their creativity was lacking due to their absence – but they are expected to start this match. At the weekend, Manchester City were able to bounce back with a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace to keep their title ambitions in order, but now they have a huge match at home to reach the semi-final of the Champions League, for the first time under the reign of Pep Guardiola.

Away Team: Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham have played three games in their new stadium, and they have recorded three victories without conceding a goal. However, after settling in well, they now have to travel up north and compete in one of the trickiest grounds in the Premier League. They need to obtain a result that will see them secure a semi-final place – which would be an incredible feat if they were to achieve it. Looking back to their group stage, Tottenham had no right to qualify from there, but now they are 90 minutes from getting to the semi-final, albeit still a mammoth task awaits them.

Harry Kane will be out of action, but so far they have won every game he hasn’t played in so far, so it could be a blessing in disguise. Lucas Moura looks to step into his place, after grabbing an excellent hat-trick this past weekend in the Premier League. Scoring would double the danger for their opponents, as even a 1-goal margin loss would see them through on the away goals rule.

Head to Head

It will be the 3rd time that the sides will meet this season, with them also playing again this upcoming Saturday. Previously, they met at Wembley Stadium, in which Manchester City won 1-0, and then obviously this past week when Son Heung-min scored the only goal of the game to take an advantage into this fixture.

That Tottenham win was their first against Manchester City in 5 attempts, and they’ll hope it will have greater significance, if it helps them to progress here. Tottenham’s last win at the Etihad Stadium was in 2016, but have lost badly on their two visits when Pep Guardiola has been in charge of Manchester City.

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions and Betting Tips

Manchester City are at 1/3 to get the win on the night, with Tottenham at 15/2. For the sides to draw, that is priced at 17/4. To qualify, Spurs are slight underdogs despite their first leg lead at 11/10, with Manchester City priced at 4/6. The first leg result has put this game evenly in the balance, and it’s hard to call it.

I’d have to say that Manchester City are more than capable of winning this game by a 2-goal margin, and the odds are relatively kind. I’d go for a 3-1 win for the hosts, taking them through 3-2 on aggregate, priced at 9/1. Sergio Aguero wasn’t at his best in the first leg, but I expect him to score at any time at 5/6. For the visitors, Son Heung-min looks like their most potent attacker, and he usually improves his game more when Harry Kane is not around – he is at 5/2 to score at any time.

Finally, to win big on this fixture, you can back it to go to extra time (therefore, Manchester City winning 1-0 in 90 minutes), and then pick a winner. For Manchester City to win in extra time, that is at 18/1 or Spurs, are at an incredible 45/1.
