It’s all square in this Champions League quarter final, as Juventus host Ajax at the Allianz Stadium, kicking off in Italy at 9:00pm local time on Tuesday. The first leg result ended in a 1-1 draw, meaning the tie is wide open as they gear up for the 2nd leg.

Home Team: Juventus

Juventus had lost their two recent Champions League matches to Young Boys and Atletico Madrid, so walking away from the Amsterdam Arena with a score draw would have been more than acceptable. Cristiano Ronaldo, as ever, was integral to Juventus, as he scored a powerful header to give them the lead, but they couldn’t hold onto it for long. Juventus conceded many chances, and will be thankful not to have lost.

At home, Juventus are a menacing force, and will hope their combination of experience and quality will get them through to another semi-final. Juventus did play at the weekend, but lost to SPAL 2-1, as they rested the majority of their players as the league is almost done and dusted, with them set to win it within their next two match days.

Away Team: Ajax

Once again, Ajax didn’t disappoint against a huge side in Europe this season, and went toe-to-toe with Juventus throughout the whole 90 minutes. Despite receiving a set-back before half time, they came out the traps quick again in the 2nd half, as David Neres scored a fantastic goal to level the score. On reflection, Ajax may have feel they created enough to win the game, but they remain well and truly in the tie, and will hope that they can shock the European continent again with another scintillating away performance, as they did in the Bernabeu in the previous round.

Despite the huge Champions League 2nd leg coming up on Tuesday, it didn’t stop Ajax from playing a full-strengthened team at the weekend, as they won 6-2 against Excelsior in a tight title race, which separates themselves and PSV on goal difference alone. They got the job done, and now their attention turns to arguably their biggest game in almost 20 years.

Head to Head

It was their 13th meeting last week, and their 5th draw, which gives Juventus the edge by winning 6 in their history, with Ajax at two victories. Unfortunately for the visitors, they have yet to win in Turin against Juventus, achieving only two draws, and losing on their two other visits. Their most recent visit was 9 years ago in the Champions League, which saw them earn a credible 0-0 draw, but a repeat of that result would seem them go out on the away goals rule. Juventus won this fixture back in 2004, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic scoring and before that in the 1996/1997 season, winning 4-1.

Juventus vs Ajax Predictions and Betting Tips

Juventus are at 4/6 to win on the night, and at 4/11 to qualify overall. Ajax are at 4/1 to win in 90 minutes, and at 2/1 to qualify. For the sides to draw, which could mean extra-time if its 1-1, is priced at 14/5. Juventus dealt with Atletico Madrid in the previous round comfortably, and that will give them enough confidence to grab the right result in this fixture, as their opponents may be somewhat naïve in defence. Ajax may take the game to Juventus again, but will find it difficult on away turf. I will predict Juventus to get a 2-1 win here, at 15/2.

I correctly tipped Ronaldo to score first last week with a header, but this time I’d go for another player, Mario Mandzukic to get the first goal at 4/1. For the visitors, I’d tip Dusan Tadic to score at any time at 13/5. For match specials, there is some decent value at Juventus to keep a clean sheet at 5/4, or back the main man Ronaldo to score in both halves at a generous 15/2.

Finally, Ajax won 4-1 at the Bernabeu in the previous round, and if they could repeat that score line here, that is priced at an incredible 150/1.
