La Liga betting.football

Mid-table Celta Vigo host Real Madrid on Sunday evening, kicking off at 8:45pm local time. The visitors will hope to build on two consecutive wins under the temporary manager Santiago Scolari, whereas the hosts will prove to be tricky opposition as they inflicted a defeat to Los Blancos rival’s Atletico Madrid back in September.

Home Team: Celta Vigo

Currently sitting in 11th place, Celta Vigo have had a fairly entertaining season but their fans will want them to challenge for the Europa League, in which they reached the semi-finals in just two seasons ago. The Celta Vigo team often play expansive football scoring 20 goals already this season, four more than their opponents this weekend, and that tally is only beaten by the top two in the league – Sevilla and Barcelona. Spanish international Iago Aspas fronts the Celta Viga team, and he has contributed to the team’s tally with 8 goals already this season. Celta Vigo were involved in a highly entertaining match last weekend, drawing 3-3 in a topsy-turvy match against Real Betis. The side had to come from 2-0 down to lead 3-2, only for then to squander it in the final minutes of the match.

Away Team: Real Madrid

real madrid betting.footballFollowing a disastrous start of the season that was compounded by an embarrassing loss to Barcelona, the writing was on the wall for Julen Lopetegui who was sacked just one week ago. Former flair player for Real Madrid, who was in charge of the Real Madrid second team, Santiago Scolari has taken charge and has won their opening two matches. Two wins, 6 goals and none conceded is just what Real Madrid needed. Real Madrid’s luck may start to change as they scored two late goals to get the much desired win against Real Valladolid – an own goal and a penalty. Real Madrid remain seven points adrift of top spot of Barcelona, but have a relatively kind fixture list ahead of them and will want to keep in touching distance. Can they make it three wins in three at Celta Vigo?

Head to Head

Real Madrid have been largely dominant in the head to head between the two over the years, but Celta Vigo have been able to catch Real Madrid off-guard on a few occasions. In the respective fixture from last season, Celta Vigo were able to get a 2-2 draw with Bale getting the goals for the visitors. Real Madrid had won their three previous visits though in the league, winning 4-1, 3-1 and 4-2. Celta Vigo did get a famous victory over Real Madrid in 2014, but that was their only league win against Real Madrid since 2006. Real Madrid won the last encounter between the two sides 6-0, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Predictions and Betting Tips

Celta Vigo are at 18/5 to get the win here, whilst Real Madrid are clear favourites at 6/10. A draw is priced at 17/5. Real Madrid have slowly picked up momentum, but I feel that they will struggle getting the three points on Sunday. I would go for a narrow 2-1 win for Real Madrid at 7/1, or even a draw with 1-1 priced at 15/2. Gareth Bale is fit and raring to go, and he would be the player to back for the visitors as he must be desperate to get amongst the goals again – he is backed at 4/1 to be the first goal scorer. For the opposition, Iago Aspas is the danger man, and he is at priced at 13/2 to score first on Sunday evening. I believe it may be cagier than most will anticipate, so my final tip would be to back there to be less than 3.5 goals at 8/11.
