La Liga Barcelona vs Huesca

On Sunday evening, we have a real ‘David vs Goliath’ clash in La Liga, as the game kicks off at the Camp Nou at 6:30pm local time. It’s already looking familiar at the top of the table as Real Madrid and Barcelona occupy 1st and 2nd in the league, and many won’t expect a change after this weekend as Barcelona host newly promoted Huesca.

Home Team: Barcelona

The pressure is always on Barcelona to win every trophy possible, and winning the La Liga appears to be the bare minimum at the moment, as they have won the league seven out of the last ten occasions.

Last season, they comfortably ran out champions but questions were asked over their Champions League display, losing at the quarter final stage to Roma. Therefore, their main focus may be the Champions League this season, which would explain signings such as Arturo Vidal for his experience, but they have also brought bright young players such as Clément Lenglet, Arthur and Malcolm. Add those players to their current crop of players including Messi, Coutinho, Suarez and Rakitik, they will be tough for any team to beat, domestically, and internationally.

So far, they have started their season in a standard manner, with a 3-0 win at home to Alaves before beating Valladolid 1-0 on Saturday which sits them 2nd in the table.

Away Team: Huesca

Huesca are La Liga’s new boys, as they were promoted last season for the first time in their history, finishing in second place in the second division. Their stadium has just the capacity of 5,500 people, and the small town are over-achieving by just being present in the division. Having said that, Huesca deserve a lot of credit as they have started the season fantastically, winning 2-1 at Eibar on the opening day, and then rescuing a point at Athletic Bilbao as Ezequiel Avila scored a stunning late equaliser to give them a 2-2 draw.

Their third game of the season takes them to Camp Nou, another away tie, but this time any type of result will be celebrated like a party back in Huesca. The manager of Huesca is Leo Franco, who you may remember, as he was a former goal keeper for Atletico Madrid and Argentina.

Head to Head

Due to Huesca being in the lower leagues during their existence, they play the Barcelona second team a lot more than their first team. However, they have played Barcelona twice in their history, and lost both. It was a Copa Del Rey clash back in 2014, which was two legs, and Barcelona ran out triumphant winners.

It was 4-0 in the first leg at the home of Huesca, before Barcelona thumped them 8-1 in the return leg. Pedro scored a hat-trick, and Iniesta also chipped in with a goal on that occasion to take Barcelona through to the last 16 winning 12-1 on aggregate.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Huesca will hope that history will not repeat itself this Sunday, and with their results in their opening two games, they will feel that they have enough threat to cause Barcelona some issues. If you are feeling like a lucky man, then bet on an away win which would be a staggering 28/1, with Barcelona at 1/14 to win. A draw would seem somewhat feasible at 10/1. For Barcelona to repeat their 8/1 victory, it would be 80/1.

I think that it will be a 4-0 victory for the home side, and you can get odds of 6/1 on that. If you think Huesca may surprise Barcelona and get one goal, then you can bet on both teams to score at 5/4, but Barcelona haven’t conceded in the league so far this season.

Can David defeat Goliath? Or will Messi and co dispatch Huesca with ease? You’d have to back the latter.
