Barcelona host Celta Vigo at the Nou Camp, kicking off at 6:30pm local time on Saturday. Following this round of matches, La Liga will wrap up for the Christmas period, as the players enjoy their winter break, before returning to action in the New Year. Barcelona look set to top the table going into January.

Barcelona

Barcelona have edged into the lead at the top of the table, in a competitive La Liga season. The Catalan club haven’t been impressive at times this season as much as their title winning campaign from last season, but go into this fixture three points ahead of Sevilla in 2nd, and 5 points ahead of Real Madrid in 4th. Barcelona are favourites to lift the title, and in recent weeks have shown their absolute best, by putting both Espanyol and Levante to the sword in recent weeks.

The man that is responsible for their inspiring form is the Argentine magician, Lionel Messi. Against Espanyol he had scored two exceptional free kicks in a 4-0 win, and at Levante he scored a hat-trick, whilst setting up another goal in an emphatic 5-0 win. Levante and Espanyol were top half of the table teams when they faced Barcelona, but neither team could get close to the champions. In this mood, Barcelona are unstoppable and you fear for their opponents.

Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo have been inconstant this season, and have been unable to put together a good run of results. The side are in 9th at the moment, but some more consistency would put them in the European positions which would be their target this season. Celta Vigo are the 3rd highest leading scorers in La Liga, scoring more than both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid. However, their downfall is their defence, as only 6 teams have a worse defensive record.

Former Liverpool striker, Iago Aspas, is the danger man, as he been a regular for the Spanish national side, and has already scored 10 goals for Celta Vigo this season. Will he be able to hurt Barcelona on Saturday, and spoil their Christmas?

H2H

Celta Vigo have been a thorn in Barcelona’s side in recent seasons, as they have enjoyed some success against the Spanish champions. The side’s met each other four times last season in the league and Spanish cup, with Barcelona winning just the once, albeit 5-0, and the other games were all score draws. Not only that, but Celta Vigo also defeated Barcelona 4-3 two seasons ago in a classic, and 4-1 in the year before that.

Barcelona have better head to head records against any team, but Celta Vigo have a record many others would be envious of. It has to be said though, that when Barcelona do win, they usually win at a canter. In the last 8 matches, Barcelona may have only won 3 times, but the results were 5-0 twice, and 6-1.

Barcelona vs Celta Vigo Predictions and Betting Tips

Barcelona are overwhelming favourites at 1/9, with Celta Vigo priced at 14/1. For Celta Vigo to repeat the result they achieved last season, which was a draw, is priced at 8/1. History suggests it won’t be easy for the home side, and three teams have already come to the Nou Camp this season and have avoided defeated from 8 matches. However, based on recent form, Barcelona should win comfortably, so I would tip a 4-1 score line at 11/1.

For Messi to score another hat-trick, that is at 7/1, with a brace at 5/2. For him to score at any time, that is priced at 8/11. For Barcelona to get a few goals in the game, that is priced at 5/6, but if you feel that it be tighter, then you can be rewarded for your boldness, and tip Barcelona to win by just a 1 goal margin, which is at a generous 9/2.
