Arsenal edge past Chelsea in a penalty shootout

Arsenal won their International Champions Cup fixture against Chelsea in a tight match that ended in a penalty shootout. It was the Aviva Stadium at Dublin where the goalkeeper Petr Cech had to play a big role for Arsenal’s win against his former club. The match went on to the penalties when both teams were level at 1-1 after playing out full time. The betting tipsters had a tough time giving out odds on the game pre-match, but as the game developed, there was an increase of live betting in-play, which was great to see, as there was alot of game action from both sides.

Early Breakthrough

For Chelsea, it was an early breakthrough and it was as early as the 5th minute. Cesc Fabregas delivered an accurate corner and it was powerfully headed in the nets by Antonio Rudriger. It was a brilliant start by Chelsea and again they got a lead through a set-piece. Arsenal was again playing a high press game and their defensive loopholes were exploited brilliantly by Chelsea and went into the lead in just the 5th minute.

Petr Cech to the rescue

Arsenal would have been fearing the worst and the lead would have been doubled, if it was not for a brilliantly anticipated save from Petr Cech on a penalty, those who has this as a in-play bet really won too!. Alvaro Morata’s shot was too tame for a goalkeeper who has a career record of saving penalties. The penalty was given after a foul by Bellerin inside the penalty area. Morata once again could not score when he had a more than decent chance in the 25th minute. Hudson-Odoi found Morata inside the penalty area but he shot straight to Petr Cech.

Lacazette’s equalizer

It was a very high-intensity game and both teams tried to force an error on either side and it was true that Arsenal for the whole 90 minutes played under pressure. With so much action the in-play betting was intense, as it always will be when the fans bet on Chelsea or bet on Arsenal. Some spectacular saves from both goal-keepers made the match even more interesting and it wasn’t until the injury time of second half that Arsenal found the equalizer. Lacazette finished calmly after a good pass from the right side, inside the penalty area.

As was the case in the 90 minutes of the fierce contest, the penalties also were quite competitive. The first 5 penalties were scored by each team, however, both goal-keepers came very close in saving at least one. It was Petr Cech who then saved his second penalty of the match and gave Arsenal a chance towards victory. Alex Iwobi had to score for Arsenal to win, and so he did. Chelsea who a few days prior won their fixture against Inter on penalties was given a taste of their own medicine here in Dublin.

Although it was a changed side that Chelsea fielded and there were overall three changes for them. Arsenal was unchanged except the injured Aaron Ramsey, who was replaced by Emile Smith-Rowe. If Morata was not at his best in the match for Chelsea, then they also had a shinning youngster doing his best against the arch-rivals. Callum Hudson-Odoi had a spectacular game who at certain stages ran inside the Arsenal half and if not for Morata’s poor show the game would not have gone into the shoot-outs.

If you are looking to bet on the International Champions Cup there’s plenty of betting action going on, if you had bet on Chelsea then your a winner, if you are an Arsenal fan, there’s always the next game and as both teams are so strong right now, there no telling what will happen the next time these two great teams play against each other.
